Each set of tubes that hot combustion flue gas travels through before making a turn within the boiler, is considered a "pass." A 3-pass firetube boiler design consists of three sets of horizontal tubes (Including Furnace), with the stack outlet located on the rear of the boiler. A downdraft design keeps the cooler water from having an effect on the hot surfaces within the boiler.
Generally speaking, a boiler with more passes provides more opportunities for hot gasses to transfer heat to the water in a boiler and operate more efficiently, however, boiler efficiency is highly affected by tube design, and not simply the number of passes. It is possible for a 3-pass boiler with a tube design (such as XID boiler tubes) that allows more heat transfer time to deliver the same or higher efficiency rating than a 4-pass boiler with standard tubes.
3-Pass Fire Tube Boilers Offer:
S V ENGINEERS proudly manufactures and sells new 3 pass firetube boilers, and also has the expertise to provide on-site or in-house service and repair for 3 pass boilers from other manufacturers as well.
In addition to an in-stock inventory of used 3 pass boilers, we offer firetube boiler customization to meet any specification. And as as a fully licensed General Contractor with divisions dedicated to every aspect of the boiler room inside and out, we are able to provide system design and engineering, concrete work, electrical services, process piping, and more to provide a total steam plant solution.
Our 3-Pass fire tube Boilers are available with capacities ranging from 500 kg/Hr to 6000 Kg/Hr with working pressure ranging from 7 Kg/Cm² to 21.06 Kg/Cm² with firing medium being oil fired burner, agro-waste, fire wood and briquettes in the following different designs :
1] 3-Pass Dry Back
2] 3-Pass Fully Wet Back
3] 3-Pass Semi-Wet Back
4] 3-Pass Reverse Fired Dry Back

Each set of tubes that hot combustion flue gas travels through before making a turn within the boiler, is considered a "pass." A 4-pass boiler design consists of four sets of horizontal tubes (Including Furnace), with the stack outlet at the front of the vessel. A downdraft design keeps the cooler water from having an effect on the hot surfaces within the boiler. 4-pass boilers leverage natural draft operation which allows cool water to contact the hottest part of the boiler.
Generally speaking, a 4-pass boiler provides more opportunities for hot gases to transfer heat to the water in a boiler and operate more efficiently (yielding a higher overall heat-transfer co-efficient).
4-Pass Fire Tube Boilers Offer:
S V ENGINEERS proudly manufactures and sells new 4-pass firetube boilers. We are also authorized to serivce and repair 4-pass boilers from other manufacturers as well, both on-site and in-house at our facility in Mysore, Karnataka.
In addition to an in-stock inventory of used 4 pass boilers, we offer firetube boiler customization to meet any specification. Firetube boilers can be shipped individually, on a packaged skid, or as complete "boiler in a box" solution. And as as a fully licensed General Contractor with divisions dedicated to every aspect of the boiler room inside and out, we are able to provide system design and engineering, concrete work, electrical services, process piping, and more to provide a total steam plant solution.

Firetube boilers are available in either dryback or wetback design. They are identified by the type of reversal (turnaround) chamber, or posterior portion of the combustion chamber, through which flue gasses travel through the furnace to second-pass tubes to heat water within the boiler.
The wetback boiler design features a reversal chamber that is jacketed, or completely surrounded by water, which is used to direct flue gasses from the furnace to the tube banks. The surrounding water absorbs burner heat, helping improve operating efficiency as heat from combustion goes directly into evenly heating water instead of refractory. The wet back boiler design uses separate tube sheets between tube passes which can be more forgiving with load changes.
Wetback firetube boilers offer a more optimal functional footprint, with lift off or split-hinged doors that require no cool-down period and can be opened immediately. While there is no expensive refractory to maintain, internal pressure vessel maintenance (i.e. cleaning and tube removal) can be more involved and challenging.
The dryback boiler reversal chamber has a rear wall that is lined, or jacketed with refractory, which passes combustion gasses from the furnace to multiple tube sheets and reflects burner heat, resulting in exterior radiation losses. The dry back boiler design uses a common rear tube sheet and features convenient fire-side and water-side access.
Dryback boilers have a larger functional footprint due their heavy, vessel-sized rear door which requires sufficient space to open and a cool-down period prior to opening. Dryback boilers also require regular refractory and tube sheet inspection, which can be costly maintenance items.
If you need help navigating the design aspects to better understand the pros and cons of wetback and dryback firetube boilers, contact our steam plant experts at S V ENGINEERS today. We can help you make an informed decision based on your unique circumstances and provide the boiler that's just right for you.
Solvent extraction is used to extract Essential Oils from plants that cannot withstand the high heat used in steam distillation. Very delicate aromatics, Jasmine, Linden Blossom, etc can not survive the process of distillation. To capture their magical aromas, a process of solvent extraction is used. For some plants, the intense heat damages them so, that the essential oils are unusable therefore, they must be extracted via other means.
For essential oil solvent extraction methods one might use alcohol, hexane, ethanol, ether, methanol or even petroleum to coax the oils out of the plant. Most people don’t approve of these methods, however, because some of the solvent will end up in the final essential oils that are consumed. This makes for an impure oil, that aromatherapy and healing purists won’t tolerate.
An extracting unit is loaded with perforated trays of blossoms. The blossoms are washed repeatedly with a solvent (usually hexane.) The solvent dissolves all extractable matter from the plant whch includes non-aromatic waxes, pigments and highly volatile aromatic molecules. The solution containing both solvent and dissolvable plant material is filtered and the filterate subjected to low pressure distillation to recover the solvent for further use. The remaining waxy mass is what is called the concrete and it contains in the case of Jasmine grandiflorum as much as 55% of the volatile oil.
The concentrated concretes are processed further to remove the waxy materials which dilute the pure essential oil. To prepare the absolute from the concrete, the waxy concrete is warmed and stirred with alcohol (usually ethanol.). During the heating and stirring process the concrete breaks up into minute globules. Since the aromatic molecules are more soluble in alcohol than is the wax an efficient separation of the two takes place. But along with the aromatic molecules a certain amount of wax also becomes dissolved and this can only be removed by agitating and freezing the solution at very low temperatures (around -30 degrees F) In this way most of the wax precipates out. As a final precaution the purified solution is cold filtered leaving only the wax-free material (the absolute.)
After the solvent extraction process has been completed, the resulting absolute will have an extremely low concentration of solvent residue, approximately 5 to 10ppm (parts per million). The current European Union standards are for less than 10 parts per million solvent residues in a finished absolute.7 However, even with such a potentially small residue (less than .0001%), many aromatherapists disagree with the use of absolutes for individuals with a compromised immune system due to the potential effect of the residual pesticide. Absolutes are highly concentrated aromatic substances and are obtained from delicate flowers by either enfleurage or solvent extraction. Absolutes will most often resemble the natural aroma of the plant and are normally more colored and viscous than essential oils. Absolutes are used extensively in the cosmetic and perfume industries due to their strong aromas. There are also different grades of absolutes. The top grade is the uncut, which can be a thick or semisolid substance, making them difficult to work with. Less expensive grades are diluted with alcohol to make them more user friendly, although often the strength of aroma is slightly diminished.

As the name implies, force is used to drive the liquid through the evaporator tubes thus producing high tube velocities. A high efficiency circulating pump, designed for large volume and sufficient head, is used to supply the force. Proper design results in controlled temperature rise, controlled temperature difference and tube velocities that give optimum heat transfer. Forced Circulation Evaporators are recommended for viscous, scaling and salting liquids. As the liquid is only heated in the steamchest with flashing taking place in the separator and no boiling taking place within the tubes, fouling on hot tube walls is reduced.
SVE's Forced Circulation Evaporators may be equipped with either horizontal or vertical steam chests. The circulating pump withdraws liquid from the lower part of the vapor-liquid separator and circulates it through the tubes at a high velocity. Boiling is suppressed in the tubes either by liquid head or an orifice plate. The heated liquid is discharged into the separator where the vapor flashes off due to the temperature difference and is removed through the top outlet. The liquid is discharged at a maintained liquid level.
Characteristics:
Operates with extremely low temperature differences
High tube velocity
Velocity mechanically produced and controlled
Gives high rate of heat transfer, rapid evaporation and high concentration without requiring high operating temperatures or large heating surface
Maximum recovery of solids
Can use horizontal or vertical tubes
Tubes are readily accessible for cleaning and inspection
Suitable for single or multiple effects
Product Application:
Very viscous liquids
Scaling liquids tending to produce scale
Examples of Forced Circulation Application:
Organic Jaggery
Acid Raffinates
Glycerin
Irish Moss Extracts
Sodium Sulphate
Gelatin
Advantages:
In forced circulation evaporator there is a rapid liquid movement due to high heat transfer coefficient.
Salting, scaling and fouling are not possible due to forced circulation.
Thess evaporators are suitable for themolabile substances because of rapid evaporation.
It is suitable for the viscous preparation because pumping mechanism is used.

Boiler tuning is an important maintenance item used to adjust the air to fuel ratio in the boiler and achieve maximum combustion efficiency - the measure of how effectively the heat content of a fuel is transferred into usable heat.
Beyond ensuring long term equipment life and operational reliability, highly efficient boiler systems can mean significant bottom-line cost reduction, NOx reduction and fuel savings. Boiler tuning should be performed each year to maintain peak efficiency.
A regular boiler tune-up provides an opportunity to verify current boiler operating performance and establish a baseline for optimization adjustments, such as fine-tuning the amount of excess air available to completely burn the fuel. Using the optimal amount of excess air minimizes heat loss up the stack and improves combustion efficiency. It is not uncommon for boilers to operate at greater than desired excess air levels, resulting in in heat lost due to the increased flue gas flow, which lowers the overall boiler fuel-to-steam efficiency.
Two primary indicators used to measure combustion efficiency are flue gas oxygen (or carbon dioxide) composition and stack temperatures.
Our combustion experts at S V ENGINEERS are factory trained technicians, qualified to inspect and tune industrial boilers and burner equipment, according to manufacturer specifications, IBR guidelines, and requirements of Inspector of Boilers. We service all major brands of industrial boilers and burners, including equipment from all manufacturers from India and all over world.
Tuning your boiler and burner equipment can help you identify and address elevated NOx and CO levels, steam and stack temperature variance, boiler control issues, and even tube failure. Don't wait for your industrial boiler and burner to cause emergency shutdown.
Contact SVE today and learn more about our boiler tuning services. We provide annual maintenance contracts to keep your entire system running smoothly.
Just like the car you drive every day, industrial or commercial boilers and auxiliary boiler equipment need to be properly maintained at recommended intervals for peak performance and long service life. Additionally, a certification of inspection is needed to operate from year to year. S V ENGINEERS is your one-stop-shop for boiler inspection, planned outage maintenance, emergency service, and on-site equipment assessments.
Every boiler and pressure vessel in the United States above 15 lb requires an annual inspection, generally led by a licensed inspector from a commercial insurance provider. Annual inspection is typically geared toward a specific piece or set of equipment and involves a planned outage to open the boiler(s) and inspect the fire and water side.
A qualified service company like S V ENGINEERS works side by side with inspectors to record any problems and identify and make repairs that may be required such as tubing, refractory, gaskets, controls, etc.
Specifically, an annual boiler inspection addresses the labor, material, equipment and supervision to:
Boilers and equipment which pass inspection receive a new annual certificate of operation. Keep your steam plant operating at its best – ask about our annual maintenance contracts!
Planned outages are used to conduct annual equipment inspections, install new equipment and make upgrades, and address routine maintenance items and repairs to industrial boilers and auxiliary equipment within a designated window of time. A successful plant or process outage requires a qualified service provider with sufficient manpower availability and experience to expect the unexpected, with a contingency plan in place to meet project deadlines. It also requires proper planning to order new or used equipment, or check the availability of rental equipment as needed with sufficient lead time to secure for any pieces taken out of service.
With planned outage maintenance through S V ENGINEERS, you can expect:
Unplanned outages happen when you least expect them, and somehow it’s always at the worst time. Equipment failure and emergency shutdowns can be extremely stressful and costly as well due to lost production time. SVE’s Field Service & Repair division and Parts divisions are both available 24/7 for emergency help. Thermal insulation and jacketing is used to keep boilers and pressure vessel units hot, prevent radiant heat loss, and provide safety protection for equipment operators and employees. Surface temperatures of boiler doors and covers can reach in the hundreds of degrees Farenheit, and present a safety hazard for workers who could come in contact with these surfaces. SVE can help you select the right insulation materials like mineral wool, fiberglass, rubber, foam glass, and calcium silicate for steam plant equipment and boiler systems operating at various temperatures.
SVE offers insulation & jacketing solutions for:
Proper insulation on boilers, valves, piping and boiler equipment not only provides a safe operating environment, but also translates to a cost savings by keeping heat from radiating away from your equipment and reducing the fuel required to function. SVE works with you to determine the right kind of boiler insulation and jacketing your plant needs to maximize cost savings and keep operations running smoothly and safely.
SVE helps you reduce fuel costs and keep employees safe. We can create custom boiler insulation solution for your industrial equipment that ensures efficient operation without radiant heat loss and won't interfere with equipment maintenance and repairs.
